It is located just below the confluence of the Afon Taf Fawr and the Afon Taf Fechan rivers; it is now used as a public footpath. This cast iron aqueduct (1793), known as the 'bridge of troughs', was an influential early prototype and is a unique survivor of its kind, and has been acknowledged as the world's oldest surviving iron railway bridge. It was built by the chief engineer of Cyfartha ironworks, a former carpenter, to carry the works' tram-line and its water supply over the River Taff.
